🌍 Big AI Headlines
🧠 Six Frontier Models in Three Weeks November was absolute chaos. Google dropped Gemini 3, OpenAI rushed out GPT-5.1, Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.5, xAI launched Grok 4.1, Mistral dropped 10 open-source models, and DeepSeek dropped its v3.2 series of models to keep. The AI wars continue to wage on.
🏆 Claude Opus 4.5 Takes the Coding Crown Anthropic's new flagship hit 80.9% on SWE-bench — first model to break 80%. If you're building with AI agents, this is the one to watch.
⚡ Gemini 3 Hits #1 on LMArena Google's new model scored 1501 Elo (first to break 1500) and introduced "Generative UI" — ask a question, get a custom calculator or visualization built on the fly.
📱 ChatGPT Gets Apps + Group Chats OpenAI launched third-party apps inside ChatGPT (Spotify, Zillow, etc.) plus group chats with up to 20 people collaborating with AI. Platform play is real.
🎬 Runway Gen-4.5 Beats Google & OpenAI A 100-person team claimed #1 on Video Arena. Professional AI video is here, and Big Tech didn't win it.

🤠 Texas AI Spotlight
🏗️ Google's $40B Texas Bet The biggest story: Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Gov. Abbott announced Google's largest-ever single-state investment — three new AI data centers in the Panhandle and West Texas. Texas is solidly now #1 for AI infrastructure.
🚗 Robotaxis Are Here Tesla's Austin fleet is doubling to ~200 vehicles in December with 3-4 minute wait times. Meanwhile, Uber launched robotaxis in Dallas with Avride — Downtown, Uptown, Deep Ellum.
With Waymos continuing to spread around town, hopefully we’ll soon see our last human driver on I35.
🎓 UT Austin Hits 5,000 GPUs UT now has more AI computing power than any other university in the country, powering the nation's largest academic supercomputer. Plus: $20M NSF grant for AI reliability research.
🤝 Rice Launches AI Accelerator Rice partnered with Google Public Sector on the new AI Venture Accelerator for biotech, energy, and climate startups — plus one of the first standalone undergrad AI majors.
🗣️ This Month's AI Debate
The Federal vs. State AI Regulation Battle
The Trump administration wants to preempt all state AI laws with a single federal framework. Meanwhile, 38 states have passed 100+ AI laws this year, and 40 state AGs are pushing back hard.
✅ Pro Federal: One set of rules = less compliance chaos for companies building nationally.
⚠️ Pro State: States are the "laboratories of democracy" — and some want stronger consumer protections than DC might provide.
